It’s that time again … except this year, the LAN will take place in the winter.  Snow, cold, no more problems with heat.

Pre-LAN: Wednesday, February 10, 2010 6pm
Start: Thursday, February 11: 6pm
End: Sunday, February 14: 6pm

This year you’re able to come a day before to claim your ideal spot, and to set up your gear before the party officially starts.  It’s always a fun time.

Also, a checklist for AJG Winter LAN 2010, ideal for those who are first time visitors but also for those who have been here before, you always forget something important.

Hardware:
- Computer with all cables
- Screen and associated cables
- Keyboard, mouse and mouse pad
- Headset or headphones
- Network, about 10 meters is perfect
- Screwdriver, for upgrades and to quickly fix your computer
- Cable ties, keep your cords neatl
- Game console, perfect for when you get tired of the PC. Make sure it can be plugged in to your screen, or bring portable options.
- Mobile phone and charger
- Digital cameras and camcorders. Send photos to flickr or your blog and put your videos on Youtube, a must!
- Flashlight, to find your gear in the dark
- Own chair, those who have room in the car and like to sit like kings will of course bring their own chairs

Software:
- Installation CDs / DVDs, perfect for any troubles
- Antivirus software, can never be to careful
- Comfortable shoes and clothing, there are long hours in front of the machine
- Sleeping Bag
- Matresses
- Pillows
- Ear Plugs
- Hygiene & Health stuff
- Toothbrush and toothpaste
- Shower Soap
- Shampoo
- Deodorant
- Headache Tablets

Any medication, be sure to inform us if you suffer from any disease

TIP: Stay fresh! Nobody wants to sit next row skunk, showers and spa is available!

It’s not yet summer; but why wait?  While you’re home for thanksgiving weekend, come to the thanksgiving mini-lan.  Doors open at 6pm on Friday, November 28 until Sunday at 6pm.  48 hours of gaming.  Tables will not be supplied at this LAN so bring your own.  Games are going to be more focused this time so be sure to come on time to get your machine prepped for gaming.  E-Mail me for directions.  See you there !

Those who were at the 2002 LAN remember the teraserver, the linux file-server with 1TB of diskspace.  The machine had (8) 160GB drives in RAID5

Tera recently received a makeover, and in addition to blue lights and new LCD screens, now has (8) 1TB drives in RAID0, providing 7TB of disk space.  The machine also has a dual gigabit trunk into the core switch, meaning when everyone plugs in August 7th, downloading will be at extremely high speeds.  If your machine has gigabit with SATA drives, expect upwards of 50MB/s transfers.  

XioniX has been busy filling the machine with content, and plans to have all 7TBs full by the time the LAN starts.  The internet’s been a little slow lately … perhaps that’s because the download pipe has been fully saturated for the past 3 weeks …

Just got a high powered air conditioner installed in the basement … for those of you who remember the ghetto A/C that suspiciously exhausted into the garage … well … this is no more. The room will stay nice and cool this summer, despite 50+ machines.
